Wildfire Protection: Hardening the WUI for 2026
Wildfire Protection: Hardening the WUI for 2026
Simplicity reigns supreme - with a variety of options in the Canadian marketplace, our "last mile" pumper trailer for wildland firefighters allows 1 or 2 people to set up a 300ft throw rain gun, with self-retracting sprinkler system capable of soaking over 1,000ft of forest frontage, using our Structure Protection Unit (SPU) trailer.
Here are the 4 integrated connection points of our WUI fire system:
1. Water Source: Dry Hydrants (Bridge, Embankment, or Cistern static drafting points)
2. Power: High-Volume Pumper Integration (Diesel or Gas)
3. Delivery: Self-Retracting Hard-Hose Reels
4. Defense: Elevated High-Volume Water Cannons
Traditional wildland units are often limited by the weight of their own water. By removing the tank, we eliminate "slosh" instability and maximize the trailer's capacity for the equipment that actually wins the fight: high-performance drafting, thousands of feet of hose, and industrial-scale sprinkler systems.
Operating independently of municipal water grids, these systems combine:
NFPA 1142-aligned alternative water supply points (AWSPs) such as bridge-mounted or embankment dry hydrants
High-capacity, trailer-mounted, hard suction drafting, engineered in alignment with NFPA 1900 apparatus systems: Chapter 10 (Special Service Apparatus) and Chapter 13 (Trailers).
Rapid-deployment industrial water cannons and misting systems, with a range of 300ft, with variable setup options
Self-retracting hard-hose reels to cover over up to 1,000 feet of forest frontage, with UV-resistant hoses and gaskets
These custom units can be towed by Mini Pumper / Brush Truck (Types 6 & 7), Wildland Engine (Type 3 & 4), rescue pickups, or standard heavy-duty trucks, supporting critical WUI zones.
Supporting FireSmart Canada Disciplines
Blue Bear wildland support trailers are designed with FireSmart Canada programs in mind, particularly the disciplines related to:
Emergency planning to ensure dependable wildfire water supply points
Interagency cooperation by integrating with local fire departments and provincial wildfire agencies
Community planning by strengthening WUI resilience infrastructure
Education and awareness by demonstrating proactive wildfire mitigation strategies
Every trailer is engineered in strict alignment with NFPA 1900 standards
When paired with a certified dry hydrant, these trailers provide the FUS/STSS certified pumping capacity required to lower community fire grades and potentially reduce insurance premiums (in trial).
A wildfire trailer has years of service life with minimal overhead, ensuring your wildfire defense budget goes toward suppression, not mechanics.
Complies with the transition from NFPA 1906 to NFPA 1900, ensuring your asset is recognized by modern safety and performance auditors.
